Causes of Opossum Odor and How to Remove the Smell

If you have Opossum in your house, try to get rid of them before they harm your pets and property. They produce a bad odor, and the person that comes in contact with that odor that is actually caused by their dropping can cause serious illness.  Although they are tiny animals and cannot harm the human until they did not carry rabies, they stay active at night, so most of the people even did not know about their availability. The only way to reach them is their odor or dropping.

Remove things that can attract them to stay at your home
The only thing that attracts them is food. They can eat any kind of plant or animal waste means they will eat anything that is available to them. They will also try to find out the shelter like a dark and dry place. Remove their food and living sources to get them out.

  • Clean the fallen barriers/fruits and waste of other animals
  • After feeding your pets remove the leftover food
  • Use animal-proof containers for the garbage
  • Remove the mess and woodpiles, by doing this they will not get any shelter to live

Limit accessibility
How they got the chance to get into your house? There must be open places like holes that allow them to get into your house. They may prefer to live on your attic and can eat your chicken coops. Try to limit their accessibility to limit the damage
  • Close all the entryways in the basement, garage, and seal all the holes and cracks.
  • Trim the tree if their branches are touching the attic; Opossum is a very good climber, so do not provide the way to get into your house and to damage your property.

Choose an effective technique to get rid of them
One of the most effective and quick ways to get rid of Opossum is the use of a live trap. Place these traps at night time and visit in the morning to see the results. To get quick results, you can place the fish on the trap, and its smell will help to attract them.
